1 Why does BMW offer its own performance wheels and tires?
Whether the conditions are wet or dry, the universal preference is for each tire to have maximum grip in the summer. However,
there is no universal solution for this. Every model behaves differently and therefore demands a differentiated approach. Only BMW knows the unique physics and physique of every BMW model in detail, and it develops its tires accordingly.
2 When is the right time to change tires?
When the temperature rises to above 45°F, summer tires perform considerably better than winter tires. The rubber compounds are harder than those for winter tires and designed for warmer conditions. This helps lead to shorter braking distances, lower rolling resistance and, therefore, lower fuel consumption.
3 Why choose performance tires?
On the racetrack, summer performance tires make it possible to achieve faster lap times than with conventional tires. For our DTM driver, Joel Eriksson, they give him optimal handling and better grip on corners. Our summer performance tires can add that perfect dose of motorsport excitement to your day, providing you with a similar race car driving experience. Summer performance tires are available for selected models, such as the motor-racing-inspired M Performance Y-spoke 763 M.
4 Are my old tires still all right?
In addition to the time of year and temperature, another factor plays a role in tire performance: tread depth. In most states, it is illegal to operate a vehicle with less than 3/32nds of an inch of tread remaining. BMW recommends replacing your summer tires at 4/32nds of tread remaining to ensure consistent handling and performance. If you are unsure, your BMW Service Advisor can assist you.
5 What's the fuss about run-flat tires?
Don't let tire damage ruin your day. You can always rely on star marked tires with run-flat technology to help you avoid changing your tire on a busy highway. Strengthened sidewalls on run-flat tires stabilize your vehicle, giving you the ability to continue driving up to another 50 miles at 50mph or until you reach your nearest authorized BMW center.
